The William George Agency for Children’s Services has become aware of a telephonic phishing scam in which someone is claiming to be from the George Junior Republic Alumni Association.
This is not the William George Agency. The William George Agency does not do telephone solicitations for funds and has not authorized any entity to do so on its behalf.
These types of phishing attempts are designed to create a sense of urgency and may ask you to respond, provide personal information, purchase gift cards, transfer money, or take some other action to trick you into revealing sensitive information.
Here are some things you can do if you receive an unexpected email, text message, social media request, or phone call requesting sensitive personal information or soliciting funds from someone claiming to be from or representing the William George Agency or the George Junior Republic Alumni Association:
- Do not respond to the message or inquiry or provide any personal information.
- Please report such activity by calling our main switchboard number 607-844-6460.
- Do not click on any links, make purchases or payments.
- Please remember that an unexpected text/email message displaying the name of an Agency employee does not necessarily mean that the message came from that person. It is always best to call us directly to verify.
